My friend and I went to the Museum of Natural History. We were hanging around when we saw a lonely, young man. By the way he looked; we surmised he had 17 years old. All of a sudden he started talking to us:
—Hi, what’s your name?
—Hi, I am Lucinda Brow, and she is Molly Campos. What’s your name? What are you doing so lonely?
—My name is Mathew Caulfield and I am waiting for my sister.
—Okay. What happened there?
—Oh, nothing just that I had an excruciating experience with fire.
When he talked he was kind of rude but he seemed a good person.
—Hey, do you want to go with us to the bar?
—Are you the proprietor of one?
—No. Why?
—Never mind, let’s go.
When we arrived to the bar, he asked us to show him our id cards. He said it was just to corroborate our ages and to see if we were under ages. We asked him for his, so we could see if he was under age, but he said a very cheap excuse instead of showing it. We ordered some drinks, and we derived that by the way he drank, that he was dehydrated.
We started talking about life and he told us that his dad succumbed recently, and then he told us the gruesome details of his death. Or he was simulating his sadness very good or his dad never died and he was just saying that to catch our attention.
—Hey, do you like reading? – I asked
—Oh, yes, I love it. I just finished an anthology of Shakespeare poems. Do you, guys, like reading?
—Ha-ha, not that much. Only some people of our generation likes reading, like you
.
After a very long conversation he said he had to go because he arranged with her sister to meet at the Museum, and it was imperative for him to leave now. He told us that for his meeting with his sister he had to modify his schedule and now he couldn’t change it. After leaving he gave us money to pay for his drinks but we rebuffed it, because we told her it was our invitation.
We spent a really good time together. Not every strange has a very good disposition with us. We noticed he needed a lot of attention and people to listen to him. Also when we were coming to the bar we saw some little kids playing, he was very excited about it and he spontaneously started talking to them. His voice, his face, they he acted, everything he did is going to haunt me forever.
